Martin Gale grew up in Northern England and qualified as a dentist at the University of Newcastle. But general practice wasn’t enough — he wanted to understand teeth at a deeper level.
That curiosity took him to the University of Hong Kong, where he completed a PhD investigating how fillings leak and let bacteria inside — research that still informs how he approaches treatment today.
He then moved to Melbourne to complete a Masters in Clinical Endodontics at the University of Melbourne, and has been practising as a specialist endodontist ever since — 26 years and counting.
Today, Martin runs Ivanhoe Specialist Endodontics, mentors the next generation of dentists at the University of Melbourne, serves on ADA and ASE committees at state and federal level, and is researching how artificial intelligence can improve endodontic diagnosis.
